Watchmen by Alan Moore, Dave Gibbons and John Higgins was a well-known Comic story made in 1986-1987. This Comic is a dark satizisation of the superhero genre, it's about a group of morally- ambiguous "heroes" who are dangerous and unstable. The Comic incorporates more contemporary elements for example the Cold War and Vietnam War.​

​Another Comic Book is Batman The Dark Knight Returns, by Frank Miller, Klaus Janson and Lynn Varley which was made in 1986. This Comic is one of the most popular Batman series.​


Newspaper Comic Book strips:​

​The First Newspaper Comic strips were developed 270 years ago. Comic strips became popular in Newspapers to increase the sales. An example of a Newspaper Comic is "Join Or Die" made by Benjamin Franklin, published in 1754. Historians considered the first Newspaper strip artist to be Richard. F. Outcalt. He created a regular feature called "Hogan Alley" which was about the street kids who lived in the poor part of town, this was published for Joseph Pulitzer's New York world in 1895.​

​The most popular child of the series was the "Barefoot Bald Urchin" in the Comics his thought would appear on his shirt instead of in a bubble above his head. In the coloured strips he wore a yellow shirt and became known as "the yellow kid".​

An example of a popular comic book series is The Amazing Spiderman. It is a comic book series that has continued for many years starting in the 1960s and is still loved in 2024, there have been a range of different Spidermen and women that have been created, there are even movies, games and TV series.​

The Amazing Spiderman is an excellent series which launched in 1963, it was on of Marvel's best during the 70s. Stan Lee was the creator of The Amazing Spiderman and most of the marvel characters and comics, he also contributed to the movies and made an appearance in them. Stan Lee started by creating funny comic strips for newspapers, which wasn’t much of a success, so he decided to return to an old partner and revived an old idea which then led them to creating The Amazing Spiderman.
